A Landscape Overhaul
Before and after photos of our landscape project at our lake house.
Not only did the inside of this house need an overhaul, so did the outside!! It was terribly neglected but we saw the good bones and the amazing potential!! The bushes in front of the house were SO large that they grew up over the front windows in the home, the butterfly bushes and the azaleas in the front bed were so overgrown that we could not get out of the car in the driveway without hitting them so we transplanted them to the side yard.
Before photos… There were so many parts to this landscaping project…
First, our drainfield for the septic needed to be moved and expanded from a three bedroom house to a four bedroom house so the back yard was totally dug up and turned to a HUGE pile of red Georgia clay. Photo on the left is the BEFORE back yard photo. It had to get a lot uglier before we could start to make it better!!
We had to remove some HUGE dead trees in the yard and it opened up the view to the lake. We also had some very sick hemlock trees and had a company come out and treat them to try and save the trees. We are so happy we caught it before it was too late. I think we saved our beautiful Hemlock trees on the side yard! :)
Water can be sooo destructive!! When we ripped out the old bathroom in the basement, we found water damage on the inside so we waterproofed the walls and took some pretty PINK measures to keep out the moisture. Not only did we waterproof the walls, we also got new downspouts and redirected the water in the front of the house and the side of the house. One little “fix” always creates more work, doesn’t it? :)
Once we did all the preliminary work, removing trees, bushes, installing the new drainfield, waterproofing the basement… THEN we got to figure out what we wanted the yard to look like to we hired a Dennison Brothers in Hiawassee to help us map out what we wanted to do. Lewey and Larry have taken GREAT care of us. Everything from pre-planning, incredible knowledge of the types of plants that work and all the way through execution, installation and implementation, we are thrilled with them. Here is the rough sketch of what we came up with. Now it is getting exciting!! :)
We have INSTANT YARD! :). doesn’t it look amazing!! They even put in a sprinkler so we won’t kill it. :)
AFTER Photos… New sod, new plants, a dry river bed in the front, loads and loads of dirt (literally)… We are SO happy and can’t wait to watch it grow into a beautiful yard, with lots of outdoor spaces to enjoy the beautiful lake and Mountain View.
It is SO fun to watch a project from start to finish over the course of nearly a year. We have been eagerly anticipating the spring so we can enjoy all our hard work!!! From tearing down to planning to implementing and installing… now the BEST part is that we can play and enjoy. Time for Bocce ball, corn hole and frisbee in the yard!! Whoo Hoo
